Ceramic Pie Weights Smell

I hadn t used mine in a few months.
Ceramic pie weights smell. The smell is hard to describe but is most likely rancid fat from previous usage. My pie weights smell bad now. These pale beads of clay are meant to be placed on top of a piece of parchment inserted into your pie. The stinky weights problem.
When you first start using them not only place foil or parchment paper between the pie crust and weights but also on top of the weights to limit any odor.
